Using video on websites and various streaming video options...
This morning I popped into Ecademy to see what was cooking and spotted a story by Amanda Vlahakis, a graphic designer who has also started an online community for working parents. A nice and concise blog post to which I seemed to wax so lyrically that I decided to add my words of wisdom here for your viewing pleasure! Anyone Using Videos for Marketing? For some time now streaming videos for marketing purposes has been a growing service offering. Is anyone here using it to great effect and finding it useful and getting a good ROI (because I believe it's not cheap), or do you have an examples of a business using it to great effect? Regards Amanda You can read the blog and the posts of others here... My response focuses on how I use video streaming in its various forms on our websites... Hi Amanda ... I've been playing with various video tools and use them for different purposes ... each of the technologies is free to use ... getting professionals involved makes sense if your target market expects it and I'd recommend Hanif Khan of Video Shoot Productions, he's based nr Heathrow and part of the team that set up MTA International and recently did some work for Gordon Brown's wife. He works closely with Geoff Motley who trains TV presenters ... last year using Google alerts I got him connect with Virgin Media ! You can see him interviewing me on the BinB pages (or search google videos or youtube for jon davey) The tools I use are Utterli you can use this with your inbuilt laptop camera or plug in some more professional kit ... based in the USA it can run slow at times but is part of a bigger community so you have the benefit of their regular users popping by to check out your video ... the main driver for me was the widgets ... i wanted a panel that was 160 pixels wide for the right hand column of all my web pages ... they have one ... you can also use ping.fm to send text messages to the widget ... i tend not to, prefering to just use it for video ... the videos rack up and you can see how many have watched them ... i found titles with USA in them work nicely if chasing traffic ... now i tend to post say monthly with my latest mission video !! Twitvid.com is great for "on the road" movies ... we ran a Keep Trade Local campaign with my FSB hat on in Wokingham recently so I was able to capture 2 minute clips thoughout the day and post them in real time ... you can then link it directly with your youtube account and so load once and it delivers to both ... far quicker than trying to load to youtube direct !! Youtube also gets indexed rapid by Google ... you can then grab either the youtube or twitvid footage and post it on your web pages or ecademy story ... here is my latest play ... mini vodafone laptop camera capturing screen shots of how to add a news story to linkedin ... works if you are not a complete novice or need finite detail ... if you just need a 2 minute quick overview to get you started its OK ... The other tool I use is Livestream ... I used it the other week when the President of India popped in to see Her Majesty ... 80 people tuned in to watch the Household Cavalry and the bands of the Irish Guards in Windsor ... used mini laptop for say 1 hour on that ... then decided to switch to twitvid to capture their return for posterity ... 4 a breast at a fast trot with queen and carridges and all ... bloody twitvid was down !!! but my eyes and those of my 10 year old were WIDE open !! My advice is to just have fun with it ... people deal with people and if they don't like it if you have a sense of humour then you need to ask do you want to deal with these people anyway? Saying that ... having a professional interviewer for the polished jobs makes sense as they know how and when to ask questions that make the most of the interview ... thanks Geoff! This has turned into a blog I should use on my own site !! So I think I will ! Thank you.
