Jo Bryant Puppeteer
Caricature by Denis Blandford

Local puppeteer, Jo Bryant, explores the ongoing relevance of both avatar and persona in the creation of practical online identities for businesses. Launching with some background on how the avatar and persona emerged from antiquity, Jo traces the importance of these concepts to the modern day and their current application within the online environment. A common thread of how you present yourself and your message to others runs throughout, while discussion points are signposted through an examination of what you really want from your contacts and audience. A level of tempering is also referenced with such considerations as: Does profiling your customers distance you from them? How much of yourself should you reveal in your business persona? Is your avatar an accurate representation of who you are and what you offer?

Working through her chosen medium of puppetry, Jo then goes on to explore some of these considerations via practical application. In this, she also highlights the wider aspects of her work with younger audiences and the impact negative social networking can have on them and their peers.

Ultimately, her departing summation focuses on the wider social networks we now inhabit and whether they work for us or against us in both personal and professional spheres of influence.

Jo Bryant is the owner of Pottytree Puppets and is based out of Twyford, Berkshire. For more information on the kind of programmes and shows she offers, please visit www.businessinberkshire.co.uk/pottytreepuppets/ or her home page at www.pottytreepuppets.co.uk.
